Fort Collins in Top 5 of energy competition

News BriefsFort Collins came in fifth out of fifty communities competing in the Georgetown University Energy Prize competition. Local residents reduced energy consumption by 5.4% which is enough to power 9,800 homes for a year. This means Fort Collins will advance to the final round of the national competition, which has a $5 million prize package. Colorado companies top Outside's best places to work

Outside Magazine recently released their list of "100 Best Places to Work in 2017" and 41 Colorado companies made the list. Fort Collins wins 2017 Baldrige award

The Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award recognizes U.S. organizations in the business, health care, education and non-profit sectors for performance excellence. Organizations are evaluated based on product and process outcomes, customer outcomes, workforce outcomes, leadership and governance outcomes, and financial and market outcomes. Bloomberg: Smartest Americans Heading West

News BriefsOn the home page of the Northern Colorado Economic Alliance website they state that Northern Colorado is "nerdy and proud of it." Bloomberg would agree. The Bloomberg Brain Concentration Index tracks business formation along with employment and education in the areas of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). Their most recently released data shows that three cities on the Colorado front range are among the top 10 metro areas attracting American's best and brightest. Boulder, Fort Collins top list happiest cities

Dan Buettner, National Geographic Explorer and author, partnered with Gallup social scientists to rank the 25 happiest places in the United States. A total of 15 metrics ranging from civic engagement to healthy eating were used to gauge the level of happiness in 190 metropolitan statistical areas. Boulder ranked #1 and Fort Collins came in at #4 on their list. WalletHub: Windsor best place to raise a family in Colorado

WalletHub, a personal finance website, recently released their 2017 list of the best places to raise a family in Colorado. Windsor, CO took the #1 overall spot with their highest marks in the categories of 'Education, Health & Safety' and 'Family Life & Fun.' Rounding out the Top 10, in rank order, were: Castle Pines, Erie, Parker, Louisville, Frederick, Superior, Castle Rock, Fort Collins and Boulder. In conducting their analysis, WalletHub took into account graduation rates, crime rates, availability of kid-friendly activities, socioeconomic factors and affordability. NoCo Foundations unite for Hurricane Relief Fund

News BriefsThe Bohemian Foundation and Northern Colorado Community Foundation have partnered to help nonprofit organizations address intermediate and long-term recovery needs in Texas, Louisiana, Florida, U.S. Territories, and other areas affected by hurricanes in the United States this fall. Through midnight on November 1st, all donations made by Colorado residents to the Northern Colorado Community Foundation's Hurricane Recovery Fund will be matched by the Bohemian Foundation dollar-for-dollar up to $3 million. Rocky Mountain Hyperloop could be a game changer

The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) has partnered with Hyperloop One to study the possibility of Hyperloop travel in Colorado. With increasing traffic on Colorado's major arteries, in particular I-25, it makes sense to investigate alternative options...even if they seem to be straight out of a movie. Hyperloop One is a magnetic levitation-based bullet train that can transport passengers and cargo at speeds up to 700mph. The proposed Rocky Mountain Hyperloop route would connect Cheyenne, Fort Collins, Greeley, Colorado Springs, Pueblo, Golden, Vail and Denver with Denver International Airport. CSU adding satellite campuses

Colorado State University (CSU) recently announced plans to open satellite campuses in Rocky Ford and Orchard Mesa. Rocky Ford, located in the eastern plains, will be home to CSU's High Plains Campus that will include a regional Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory and serve as the leadership center for agricultural experiment stations in the High Plains. The CSU Western Campus will be located in Orchard Mesa and will include a new Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory building as well as a new Research and Engagement Building.
