UCHealth's Medical Center of the Rockies (MCR) recently became Northern Colorado's first Level 1 Trauma Center. For local residents, this means they have access to top-level hospital care for severe and complex injuries without having to travel to Denver. The official designation was made by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment. Criteria including around-the-clock coverage by trauma surgeons and availability of specialists were part of the requirements met for achieving the special designation. Colorado State University (CSU) history professor Jared Orsi has been named Colorado State Historian and the leader of the State Historian’s Council. This appointment was made by History Colorado, a division of the Colorado Department of Higher Education. Per tradition, Orsi will serve a one-year term in this role. He has taught at CSU for over 20 years and is also the director of CSU's Public Lands History Center. Click here to read the complete press release.
Information and Real Estate Services (IRES) recently released their Q2 2022 MarketWatch Report and in Northern Colorado home prices were up across the board. In Larimer County, the median sales price was $605,000 for Q2-2022, an increase of 19.6% year-over-year. The number of closed sales was down 12.8% dropping to 1,942. In Weld County, the median sales price was $510,000 for Q2-2022, a 13.5% year-over-year increase. The number of closed sales was down 7.8%, coming in at 2,166. In Boulder County, the median sales price was $935,000 for Q2-2022, a 12.3% year-over-year increase. The number of closed sales was down 19.0%, coming in at 1,126.

U.S. News & World Report released their "Healthiest Communities Rankings 2022" and two Colorado counties made the Top 10. Douglas County ranked #3 and Broomfield County #9. Counties were scored across 10 categories: population health, equity, education, economy, housing, food & nutrition, environment, public safety, community vitality and infrastructure. According to data recently released by the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment, Colorado's unemployment rate dropped to 3.5% in May 2022, the lowest since February 2020. U.S. News & World Report released their 2022-2023 Best Places to Live in the U.S. rankings and four Colorado metro areas topped the list: Colorado Springs (2), Boulder (4), Fort Collins (54) and Denver (55). U.S. News & World Report ranked the 150 most populous metropolitan areas based on factors including quality of life, desirability, job prospects and affordability.
The recently released April 2022 Recovery Tracker report shows key economic indicators for Northern Colorado moving in the right direction. Job posting activity continued to be very high with 2.8 postings per every unemployed person. Larimer County recovered to 2019 average employment levels in August 2021, while Weld is still recovering lost jobs.
